A Mermaid for Christmas
Part 1

Ethan couldn’t go home for Christmas - the first time in his thirty-one years of life. He wouldn’t get to see his mom’s two enormous trees. He wouldn’t get to taste his dad’s famous banana pudding. His baby sister would have to make their traditional snowman by herself, or with her new husband probably. Ethan still hadn’t decided if he liked that guy.
Looking out over the midnight black water, Ethan took a long swig of his imported beer. He let the bittersweet taste fill his senses. He enjoyed how it went down cold. The humidity in the air was unnatural for Christmas Eve. Ethan was used to a winter wonderland by mid-December back in Kansas City. His mom had told him they’d gotten eight inches overnight. Another round of snow was scheduled to hit the city by early morning Christmas day.
Resting his elbows on the railing, he looked to where the moonlight hit the ocean. A tail crested out of the water and quickly dipped back below the cover of darkness. It caught his eye because of the way it sparkled in the spotlight of the moon. He stood up straight to see if it would appear again. He wanted to grab his binoculars, but he didn’t want to miss it if it did reemerge out of the water. He didn’t have to wait long, just a few moments passed and he saw it again. This time, it was closer to shore. Ethan’s company put him up at a private villa by the ocean. He had this stretch of beach to himself. He would have been elated if he’d had someone to share this beautiful paradise with, but he’d opted to stay a bachelor his entire adult life thanks to having his heart broken his senior year of high school. He’d proposed to his girlfriend on prom night, and she’d turned him down. That would have been bad enough, but later that same night, he walked in on her fucking his best friend in the suite he’d gotten for his special night with her.
The sparkling thing in the water was definitely a tail. But the fish must have been as big as a human because the tail was long and sleek. The scales shimmered greenish-blue in the light from the moon. It appeared again even closer to shore. He pulled on some jeans over his boxers and ran downstairs, across the sand to the speed boat he’d rented for the week. He jumped in shirtless and shoeless, started the engine. It revved to life startling away the silence of the night. He took a deep breath. He wasn’t sure why he was so curious about this fish, sure it was beautiful in a way he didn’t think fish could be, but to speed out into the ocean in the middle of the night was a little crazy. He didn’t care though. Something told him he had to see the fish up close, and really, what else was he doing but wallowing in self-pity.
Once he got out to where he’d seen the fish last, he turned off the engine hoping he hadn’t scared it away. Fish didn’t care for disruptions in the water and a loud ass boat was probably exactly what they would keep them away.
He stared at the water gripping the edge of the boat tightly for what seemed like several minutes when he saw it again. But it was different than what he’d thought initially. It was really close to his boat this time, and he could see the scales clearly, but only the bottom half. When he looked again, a woman with beautiful long black hair, big dark eyes, skin the color of roasted chestnuts and what looked like leaves covering her large breasts stared back at him.
“Miss, are you okay?” he yelled.
She floated in the water some distance from the boat, but he could reach her in seconds. He turned the key and the boat revved to life. He steered it towards her. When he got close enough, he killed the engine and jumped in the water. He wasn’t just a good swimmer, he was an excellent swimmer. He’d won awards that his mother still had lined up in the trophy case at home.
The woman was even more beautiful closeup. Her high angular cheekbones and full lips called to him. He reached out to her realizing she hadn’t said anything. She just stared at him.
“Are you okay?” he asked again wiping some of her hair away from her face. She hung on to a rock, which kept half of her out of the water and the other half hidden by the dark water. He examined the parts he could see. She didn’t appear to be hurt.
“I’m okay,” she said with a shaky voice.
“What are you doing out here all alone? Let me help you back to shore.”
She pulled away from him. “No, I can’t go to shore - not like this.”
“Not like what?” Ethan said confused.
“Like this.” She lifted further out of the water. The bottom half of her body where her legs should have been was a tail, a blueish-green fishtail. This closeup, the gold shimmered brightly like really expensive jewelry.
“What the…” Ethan fell silent.
What was he looking at? What was he talking to? A mermaid? Those were only in fairytales. He closed his eyes tight, then reopened them. Her beauty was unparalleled. She could rival any of the supermodels dominating runways. Her hips curved in such a womanly shape that Ethan found himself getting hard looking at her. He was glad most of his body was in the water. He reached out to touch her scales. She gasped when his fingers grazed the slippery texture.
“Where did you come from?”
“The world below the ocean. The other side of your world.”
“Why are you here?”
“I’m not sure. I felt drawn to this spot, so I’ve been waiting here for whatever called me here.”
“What could have called you here?”
“You.”
“Me?” Ethan nearly dipped under the water.
The woman reached out a hand and helped him on to the rocks. He was glad because his arms were getting tired.
“How could I have called you here? I didn’t even know creatures like you existed.” Now out of the water, Ethan positioned himself in a way to make his erection less noticeable. His wet jeans weren’t helping. This mermaid was something out of a wet dream. Her curves glowed under the moonlight. Her full breasts were bare with the exception of the small leaves covering her nipples. Ethan wanted to tear those off and suck on her hard buds.
“I’m not a creature.” She looked away from him.
“I didn’t mean...I’m sorry.” He was usually much smoother with women, but with this mermaid, he felt like a teenage boy all over again, not able to control his arousal and fumbling over his words. “Tell me how I can help you. I can’t leave you here by yourself.”
“You won’t want to help me once I tell you what I need.” Her gaze fell.
Ethan lifted her chin with his fingers. When their gaze met, his dick jumped and hardened even more.
“Tell me. I’ll do whatever you need. I feel honored to have met someone like you. Never did I think in a million years I would see something so beautiful.”
A tear fell from her eye. Ethan wiped it away with his thumb. Unable to help himself, he grazed her lips with his other thumb as he cupped her face. He licked his lips unable to look away from hers.
“What do you need me to do?” he asked.
“I need you to kiss me. Then I will be able to go to shore with you.”
Ethan stared into the dark depths of her eyes. Still cupping her face, he brought his lips down on hers. He’d intended the kiss to be innocent, just a brushing of his lips on hers, but it turned into much more than that. She took one of his hands from her face and guided it to her waist. She slid it down over her hips that had previously been covered in scales, but now all he felt was silky-smooth skin. She brought her hands up to his face and deepened their kiss.
He moved his palm over her former tail that had turned into human legs in seconds.
He pulled away from her breaking their kiss. He looked down to see that she was naked from the waist down with just a leaf covering her womanhood. Ethan swallowed hard - his erection pressing against his jeans. Her gaze dropped and her hand slid down his chest over his stomach. Her fingers outlined his muscles before lightly stroking his erection through his jeans. She looked up at him with those big eyes.
“I love how your eyes change colors in the light. They are a light brown, but they look green too like seaweed” she said - her voice sounding so musical.
Ethan laughed. Women had commented on his eyes, usually focusing on his long lashes or the way his gaze made them feel. He liked the innocence of the mermaid’s comparison.
“What is your name?” Ethan said.
“I’m Anashe.”
“I’m Ethan.”
“I can come back with you now, Ethan.”
Ethan could only muster a nod.
